Default Floorboard rust?

My truck sat for awhile before I bought it, and I read something recently about somebody who said they pulled up the carpet in their ranger and found the floor all rusty inside the cab.

Well, mine had been sitting and I think the weatherstripping was leaking so I pulled my "carpet" (well, rubber floor since it's an XL). First off there was a ton of mud UNDER the mat (like it was 2-3 small garden spade's worth). Also the fiber insulation attached to the bottom of the mat was wet.

There is some rust on the floor but it at least isn't rotted through. But, I can't really see the extent of it due to the asphalt sound insulation on the floor. Are the chances good that it is rusted under the insulation as well? I'm thinking about getting a heat gun so I can scrape it off, wire brush the floor and paint it.

I had the same problem. Check a little higher up near the fire wall and the corner near the brake pedal. My truck legit had a rot hole there and water came in there when I drove in the rain. That's a good plan to prevent it from getting worse, but you gotta solve the problem of where the water is coming in first.

Only rust on my whole truck. Passenger seat front mounts closest to the door.

Well like I said I know where the water was coming in...I got into the truck after it had rained and a large area of the floor was wet by the driver's door. I hope new weatherstripping will fix that although the weatherstripping doesn't appear to be in THAT bad of shape so I dunno. Maybe the door just wasn't shut all the way.

Also FWIW, since I posted this I went ahead and bought a heat gun anyway and took off some of the asphalt sound insulation around the areas that were rusted...there was no rust under any of the asphalt Hit it all with a wire wheel and it was all surface rust far as I can see. I haven't painted it yet, I'm wanting to take the seats completely out and remove the vinyl floor so I can hose it off (it's REALLY dirty).

Degreaser and a scrub brush to that floor will come clean that's what I did to mine before it went in
