Default The infamous cruise control.

Ok, so I've read just about every thread on here related to cruise control and am still in a rut.
My cruise control WAS working fine, but the buttons were completely destroyed. I replaced them with an OEM set, which did not work at all, so they sent me a replacement part. Now, I've got the other new set installed and still do not have functional cruise control -(yes, battery was disconnected for the swap).

Symptoms: No lights come on when pushing speed control buttons at any speed. I can get the speed control light to flash if I hold down the ON button while turning the ignition key to the on position, then if flashes once again if I press ON again, but no other response under any button pushes. I tried the diagnostic button pushing, but no response at all if I start with the OFF button held down.

Did I fry something during install? Are the new button pads dysfunctional? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

No idea. My cruise always worked, even when the buttons were broken off of the steering wheel. I replaced both pods, did the light mod (my truck didn't have a power wire running to the pods from the factory) and everything works fine.

I'd check all the fuses first, then move on to the servo.

It's pretty unlikely that you'd receive two defective button pods in a row.

Yes, checked all the fuses - even the ones under hood. Checked it again this evening, still odd. I can hold down the ON button, turn the ignition on (causing the speed control light to blink once), then when hit the ON again, the speed control light will blink, but not stay on. This is frustrating - I should have just kept the switches with the broken covers...

Not sure if this will help, but it's a 2000 Ranger XLT, 2WD, Manual, 3.0L

Omg I have just bought the same truck and my cruise is broken too. No lights on dash. The rubber boot is destroyed (mines in a stalk) but no lights. I tried the diagnostic from another thread to get into debug mode but nothing. The owners manual I have doesn’t identify the fuse that it’s on so that would help. Gonna go press buttons as I turn the ignition and see if I get any dashboard lights. The off/on resume button is a fixed position slider - nothing in the off position. Will try on and resume / accelerate which is sprung. Anyone know the standard readings on the connections ? It’s 9 pin

Did you have to remove the steering wheel to remove the pods? I need to do the same but am afraid of that part.

I fixed mine. I got a new rubber boot (actually used for this part from Amazon KU20041BK. I cut off the smallest segment and the rest looks great it’s a universal firewall boot )

I fixed mine by tracing all the cables and one of the connectors under the steering console had come loose.

Sorry, I was actually asking OrangeRanger, my cruise buttons are on the steering wheel not a stalk.
