Default manual shift knob

im looking to replace my shift knob with a t handle. i haven't pulled it off yet and from what ive read it will probably be splined instead of threaded. any ideas on how to get around this problem as most shift nob kits are screw on?

Scootch the shifter boot down from the ring just below the knob, then use thin flat devices...like a screw driver or putty knife to get between the bottom of the knob and the ring...twist sideways with each and it should start inching off the shifter. After awhile you can put and flat edge under the bottom lip of the knob and knock the flat edge up with something and the knob will slowly come off...unless some a-hole has glued it onto the splined end of the shifter. Not that hard...just don't break yer nose goin all Chuck Norris on it by trying to pull it off with yer hands.

I think he was asking about how to get around the fact that most replacement knobs are screw on, not splined.

Well, it's factory stock replacement or buy one that fits over the shifter top and locks in place with set screws (ratty, cheap) or come up with a way to put a threaded knob on a sleeve that fits over the shifter and locks in place...thats about it. Thought he was asking about how to get the sucky stock knob off the shifter.
