Cool Need to disconnect battery while replacing blower resistor?

Replacing the resistor pack looks straight forward. What I want to know is is it absolutely required to disconnect the battery? As far as I can tell, the blower motor has no power with the key off.

Any contrary opinions?

You're correct. It is a standard safety measure for the lowest common denominator to disconnect the battery. You do not need to for this as long as you have the truck off and the HVAC off.

I went down to Ford STEALership to get a new resistor for my Ranger.
They don't have in stock and in costs $242.40+ tax
ARE THEY INSANE???!!!
what a rip off!

THOSE IDIOTS at the dealer quoted me the WRONG price!
The Resistor pack i need is $34 ! way better than the other price!

The $242 one is gold plated, is self installing and adds GPS to your Ranger!

LOL FireRanger I asked that question at the L.E. Academy. haha

Ditto I bought a 96 red ext cab Ranger same problem only on high. Replaced brakes and the sliding glass was broke when I bought it. It would have cost 200 for a single glass and 400 for slider. The glass glass next to a you pull it place took out a nearly brand new slider and got it for 140.00 total.

I'm finally getting around to replacing the resistor pack on my 2000 Ranger. Be warned, as I've found out on my Ranger. If you have the big, square combined washer tank/radiator expansion tank you're in for a tough job! It sits just close enough to the resistor packs location that getting even a 1/4" drive ratchet in there is almost impossible. I also couldn't get my big hands to grip the clips and unplug the wiring. I managed to get the resistor pack out with the wiring still plugged in after 2 hours of struggle! Judging buy the rust on the resistor pack, there's no way it's going to be unplugged anyhow. BTW there's a good video of this job. Notice how the smaller radiator expansion tank makes the job much easier on a 2003 Ranger.

Mine is working at the lower speeds but sounds muffled (like something's stuck in the airway) - I wonder if it's the same problem?

Someone actually posted that vid on the other page. Check if the air flow is any better on different settings or on all. There could be something plugging it up or a piece of the tubing came off and needs to be put back in place. That happened on my fiances olds.

I had leaves in the plastic tube making a sound.
There's 2 resistors on my 96. Autozone said one is like 10 and one is like 30.00.
Wd40 is flammable and u put it on an electrical part??
Heat or A/c only works on "high".

Is that the blower or heater resisitor?? I have 2 resistors. Fan only works on "high". I can't get tab to rellease on that one it has tab on top and bottom. The other one comes off easy and only has one tab. This one is at bottom right looking at the the grill the other is on the center left side of fan.
