Got the homelink today.

Pretty small. Took it apart to get a better feel of what needs to be trimmed.

I am thinking of just soldering the wires directly onto the board then having them break away at a later point rather than using the stock plug, but I'll play with it more over the weekend.

Pics of it taken apart below.

Little update. Just programmed the homelink and everything works with the garage door openers.

Plan on modifying the dash this weekend along with installing my rear louver. Will post pictures up once all done. Should be a simple wiring job since it's just two wires. Probably take a little longer to modify the dash to make it look good/oem-like.

Welp got the home link installed in the dash.

Took me a while because it needed modded. The curve behind the dash is a little annoying. If I were doing this again going forward I would do what the Audi guy did and solder on separate wires and attach my own push switches. It would have taken me way less time and I could then mount the home link ANYWHERE in the car and just have the three switches + led wiring anywhere in the cab/dash.

Works perfect though. Really cool mod to do. It's cheap and now I can have my garage in the house and my wife's townhouse garage on one thing and not need two separate remotes.

Two crappy pictures to show in case it helps anyone.

Nice install job, Nigel! I wished I had thought about alternate locations for the homelink module. I have 3 or 4 of those in my parts stash. I bought a pair of really nice visors with the lighted mirrors and HomeLink on eBay. Could have saved some cash by doing it your way. Anyway, nice job... thanks for the share!

very cool. I mounted mine down near the e-brake release. It makes it very handy to press the garage open right before I release the brake. I wired it into switched radio power. Donor car was an Audi A6, I think.
