Default Automatic Shift lever

On my 2010 2.3L My lever works fine but I was just wondering if there was a way to tighten it up? It has a lot of play up and down at least an inch each way. If so is it an easy and simple fix or a complicated one? Thanks for the help

I have a 2007 XL 2.3 auto. The shift needle was off. I purchased a new part from the FORD dealer 25.00$ , 40.00 installed labor. The play could be the plastic bushing (on) the steering column. If this is the issue, the bushing are about 5 bucks and 2 hours labor. I have seen video's here on fixes for both.

The needle adjuster gears are known to break. I adjusted mine and zip tied it

This is exactly why everyone should learn to do certain things themselves.

There's nothing terribly complicated about doing brakes and spark plugs, and there aren't any expensive special tools required. You can do both jobs with a decent socket set and a pair of needle nose pliers (but the drum brakes are much, much easier with a spring puller, which only costs a few bucks).

You paid probably $350 in labor for that job, and that's assuming they replaced the rotors and not just the brake pads and shoes.
