If I swap out the instrument cluster that I have with one out of another ranger, is there a way to reset the mileage on the one I installed so that it reads what my actual mileage is? Or will it just read how ever many miles are on that cluster?

analog or digital? There is a write up on the analog, its tedious but I did mine when I swapped to white face gauges and LED's... gauges work great, bulbs...bad idea IMO!

Digital, I believe only a dealer can set your mileage.

Mine is a digital display. Do you know if the white faces will come off of most clusters? I guess I could always do that instead of replacing the whole thing, if it would work.

I know my model year came apart and they sold "overlays ". Just not sure of quality

Yes you can remove the white display on the 04+ clusters.

Needles come off by turning them round and round till they pop off.

Ok. That sounds like it would work better and look nicer than those overlay stickers they sell. How much of a hassle is it to get the needles back on and in the same place they were before?

Let vehicle warm up and then snap a picture. Then repeat the same steps when new overlays are on.

If you have a smartphone there are numerous GPS apps with speed on them. Do not put the plastic lens back on and drive on the freeway at what ever speed then set it with the phone.

You may have to set the RPM the same way by using a picture of where it is at certain speed.

I was lucky enough on mine to put the needle back on at zero and you will notice it will not go down past zero and further and it was spot on with my phone once I started driving. Fuel one was the same but you just gonna tinker with them.

The milage is stored in 4 individual memory locations in the 4 different modules that makeup the data network.
PCM, RCM, Cluster, BCM.

You need to replace (or hack) the rom value in all 4 modules and reconfigure them to reset the mileage.
