I have seen aftermarket 'Shaved Door Handle' kits to spring the door open remotely and they obviously use springs against the door. This would help tighten the door against the striker. If I had that rattle problem I would check just how, what, why and where they fastened those springs.

The spring is attached to the cab where the bottom of the door meets the cab, kinda under and behind the seat (not litterally behind the seat obviously.) I have them...Dont think it would put enough pressure to stop the door from shaking though.

Come to think (yes rare but it does happen) most vehicles have rubber molding against which the door comes to rest, like a fridge, compressing it slightly yet allowing the latch to engage.

So, midnightblu and cornfedbeast, aren't your doors coming nicely to rest against the rubber molding compressing it a bit? When closing the doors do they 'clunk' or 'clang' with a nice dull new car closing sound? Say, are these pre-Obama or post-Obama trucks? Assembled on Friday or Monday?

I can't help but feel there's too much loosness going on here which can be dealt with by adding something springy other than leaning your shoulder against the door while driving. Course it is a Ford. My first car was a Mercury and it was rock solid but plastic hadn't been invented yet.

Have to look closer at mine...think it would be possible to weld some additional metal on the striker to tighten up the non-adjustable portion of the latch? Sorry for the plethora of querries but something's not right here.

Try switching around the two rubber stoppers on your door. one is slightly longer than the other and when you switch them you will notice that you have to close your door alittle harder but the stopper will push your door so it won't move around as much. i did this, it takes less than a minute, i have some rattle over larger bumps but much less than before. and if you don't like it just switch em back. i can't take credit for this i saw it on another forum

i did this awhile ago and just went out to look at my truck. i have a supercab, there is one stopper on each door. just switch around the two on each side. ie...the two on the drivers side then the two on the pass. if you have a regular cab this is useless for you.

One other possibility, check the door handle! My driver door clunks at times, but it doesn't seem to be loose. Then one day I noticed the same sound when I opened the door and let go, I heard the same noise! Turns out that the return spring on the handle was gone, you know the one that pulls the handle back when you lift it. I put an new spring in there, and low and behold, no more clunking noises!

I was having the same problem and find that the stopper on the bottom of my driver door was missing! The stealer did not have it in stock but would be glad to get it from Detroit for $12! Anyone with a better idea? Thanks, Soapy

I found that mine was missing the little cup shaped door bumpers that fit into the holes on the inside of the doors. I picked them up at my dealer for $4.00, it helped a little , then I lubricated the door seals with WD-40 & ARMORALL, no more rattle in my door's.

Ive got a 2010 XLT 4X4 4dr supercab and it has the same problem like the seals on the door arent sealing correctly...and its very aggrivating . Itook it to the dealer for repair and they didnt do a whole lot and basically told me there is nothing they can do. so i may go to another dealer to see if they want to earn my business,if that doesnt work i will try to contact customer servive. anyone else have this problem if so how did you fix it?

My Mazda B4000 has the same issue. seems to only be coming from the passenger rear door. if i left the seat belt hieght adjuster and move it around its the same noise. im gonna take the door apart and check everything that may be loose or bouce around. if i find it i'll post!
