Default 2001 Ranger Custom Center Console

Hi everybody, I'm new to this forum so thank you so much for being such a great community.

So I'm looking to build a new custom center console for my 2001 Ranger. I have already created the template out of cardboard and will post pictures as soon as possible. I think wood would be the best bet and just cover it in some nice material to match the interior.

I just want to say this project was heavily inspired by GGlighting, thank you.

The basic function of this will be a clean place to put my switches for my current off road lights and future electronics (LED bar, train horn maybe , stuff like that) Also it will be where I will install my CB radio finally.

I will post pictures of what I have built so far soon, hopefully tomorrow. Any and all recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you everyone.

So far I've built the box out of 1/2" MDF but I need to make a few modifications cause I don't 100% like the way it's sitting. I also have some temporary screws in it just to see how everything fits. There's a small gap that I think I want to just cut out another sliver of MDF (kind of my little home made shim). Next step is to fit the CB Radio and the 6-Gang rocker switch set, and I'm even considering wiring in a few little USB charging ports.

Once everything is cut out and fits just how I like, I'm goin to head on over to the upholstery store and pick out some matching fabric for what will be my new black carpet.

Sorry I haven't been keepin up with the pictures. Well I cut the wholes and finished wrapping the box, and I installed all the components.

Now for those who wanna do this, lemme tell Ya what I did. I wrapped the box in two layers of an underwrap to add plushness to the box. And then wrapped the Leather over it.

But before I wrapped it, I was trying to figure out how I was gonna mount the CB radio. Now, most that I've seen have mounting brackets so that they mount under a dash. Basically I just took some scrap mdf and I glued and screwed the board perpendicular to the back of the face of the box to give the Radio somethin to mount onto. It actually came out really nice. I don't have any pictures, but I can take some if anyone wants to see?

Then I used some small L brackets on the bottom to mount to the floorpan with sheet metal screws. The way I built the box, it has an opening on the narrow end, so that when I remove the cup holder there, I can get to those brackets easily.

Next step is to get everything wired up and figure out a way to mount the cup holder

Sorry for the crappy picture. Here are some better ones. The first one was of the wrapping process (those wrinkles are gone) and the finished product in the truck.
