Default HVAC just quit working right...dying of heat

Yesterday all of a sudden my HVAC vent controls became unresponsive. No matter what setting I put it on weather it be Max A/C, Face or Floor it only comes out of the defroster vents. It was about 95 or so yesterday so I kinda fried in my truck.

What went wrong?! And more importantly, can I fix it?

The airflow in your HVAC is directed using vacuum operated doors. When there is no vacuum applied to the system (due to a failure), the default mode is defrost. This is what is wrong with your system, it's not receiving vacuum; you need to look and see why. Disconnected hose, broken fitting, busted vac reservoir, so........now you need to go look for yourself and see what actually has failed.

*Edit: fix should prove to be very simple.

Ok thank you, that's a relief. I don't really know much about the hvac system though. But i'll see what I can do.

Well I looked and I found out what the problem might be in about less than 30 seconds. If i'm correct it's because a line leading down to the vac reservoir melted believe it or not. Now I just need to fix the line and i'll be in business.

You most likely are correct. And the line is not a rubber one but rather a (slightly) flexible plastic one. Those can be easily fixed by cutting out the damaged section and splicing it together with a piece of rubber hose. Cleaning the existing hose and applying a light coat of Permatex or the like is good redundancy for keeping the splice together. Apply the Permatex to your existing hose and stay back from the cut ends a bit so as to not plug the hose with sealer.

Well thank you for the help. That did end up fixing it. Living in the high desert of socal it gets to be over 100 about 75% of the hot months so it's important that I have a properly running ac. I couldn't thank you enough.
