Twin turbo mods?
Hey all!
I've been wanting to put some kind of turbo mod in my truck for a while and am hoping to max it out by putting twin turbo. I've read online that these can be especially tricky and costly in the 3.0 liters due to a lack of aftermarket support. Is there any chance somebody could give me a ballpark of how much it's gonna cost to put the turbos in (in addition to everything else that will need tone upgraded like the cam shaft and fuel injectors)?
Thanks a ton!
Aidan

Since I'm nice which is rare here... I'll tell you that it's a big waste of $$! The 3.0s block just can't handle much power! Get a 5.0 and T. T. that!

Re: Twin turbo mods?
When I had my 3.0, i mounted a 6" box fan at the beginning of the intake tube paired with a couple of tornadoes. HP gain was unreal!
But really, if you're wanting to turbo a ranger your best options are (depending on your year model) ditch the 3.0 and swap in a 2.3/2.5 or do a 5.0 swap depending on your attachment to the truck. If you are able to the best route (if you're wanting to keep a ranger motor in it) is to sell the truck and find one that's a better base to build off of IMHO. I've personally played with the 3.0 myself, never anything performance, and realized quickly that they're not a hot rod but its almost impossible to kill them.

Re: Twin turbo mods?
you could do it and pipe it yourself but you can only run around 6 lbs of boost on a stock engine

Re: Twin turbo mods?
I would have put this thread somewhere other than 'Interior Tech'. unless you plan on the turbo's being inside the cab. That is what I would do, so you get this cool looking interior mod too in addition to bitchin horsepower!

Re: Twin turbo mods?
Most people scoff at the 3.0 and this question has been discussed multiple times. There are a few of us that do mod the 3.0 because of emissions we are stuck with what we have. If you are looking at forced induction your best bet would probably be the old thunderbird super coupe supercharger and run the plumbing yourself like stated 6lbs is about max unless you plan on a highly overpriced stroker kit from Morana (the only known supplier of a kit hence the high price). at 6lbs you would probably see about 215-220hp at the crank at least thats what the old whipple kits dynoed at back when they were in production. But unless you plan to seriously build the little 3.0 thats about all you can expect. They don't have very much flow in the heads so that plus a stroker kit is the only way to make any decent power from the 3.0 which at that point your probably talking 10 grand or more in parts and machine work thats before you even get to any install or custom tuning or anything else.
