Lumbar support - absolutely gone
Looking for your opinions on what I should do.
My driver's seat is un-sittable. While the lower back area of the seat has no obvious wear, the foam is so badly overused that it provides zero support, leaving the bottom of one's spine to essentially rest against a metal bar.
I'm 32 and I don't have back problems... but driving this truck makes my back hurt.
Buy a new seat from a junkyard? Use a cheap cushion (or buy a proper lumbar cushion) and sit with my back against that? Are there safety issues with using a lumbar cushion? I know these are kinda dumb questions... just throwing them out there for now.

If the seat is that bad. Get a new seat. Or get the seat redone with new foam. Any interior person can build up foam and ass support where you need it.

Junk yard and look for explorer buckets. They have lumbar.

Just go see an upholstery shop and have them rebuild the crushed foam. It's not expensive and when done it won't have tons and tons of wear like the JY seats will have, not to mention time wasted waiting to find anything remotely better other than well used seats.
Edit: You might troll the net and look for that piece new, either from Ford or from someone whop scooped up and is selling NOS Ford parts. Last time I looked at the price of molded foam for the older style Ranger seats, it was, again not very expensive at all.

Re: Lumbar support - absolutely gone
you can put expo seats in a 98+ reg cab....got to use gen 3 reg cab tracks. might have to mod the tracks slightly to fit the floor, but the seats bolt to them.

Re: Lumbar support - absolutely gone
Bumping the thread because I'm actually ready to buy a new seat now.
Looks like Explorer seats wont simply bolt on because the tracks are too long...
But will ranger seats from any year, any cab work with my truck? Remember I have a regular cab... I'm headed to the junkyard to look for some seats from a newer Ranger (say 2007 and up, they have a few ready to mooch from)

Re: Lumbar support - absolutely gone
Well, I've come to my final choice...
The junkyard had absolutely nothing good. I even called other junkyards, but they had ratty seats for too much money...
For $15, I got myself a memory foam travel lumbar cushion... this exact one in fact:
It's good. Sits right in the middle, keeps me comfy. It looks kinda stupid just sitting there on the seat, but my truck is a truck, not a prom date...
Better than the hassle and cost of replacing the seat.

Re: Lumbar support - absolutely gone
I want to find out how to reduce or remove the lumbar support in the driver's seat of my 2001. I am a small woman, and it really hurts my back and hips. Anyone know how to fix this?
