Default Installed my first mod: OHC

Completed my first mod yesterday and installed an OHC from an Explorer. Thanks to MossyOak03 for the How To- it sure made the job a lot easier. Next up is white faced instrument cluster from a Sport Trac.

Here are some pics of the completed OHC install. There is a front and side view and a shot of the temp sensor located out on the header beside the right headlight. All the wiring was fished down the right A post with four feeds behind the dash, two feeds to the sensor, and two feeds staying under the headliner to the dome light. Total time was just under 4 hours with most of that spent fishing the wire. Connections were easy as was making the cuts to the roof header for the bracket. The absolute worst part was taking the box knife to the headliner. I used a piece of flat chalk to mark out the bracket location since it wiped off if I made a mistake. I ended up putting the bracket 2 1/2" from the edge of the headliner and centering the bracket in the headliner before cutting.

Next up is a white instrument cluster from a Sport Trac when it arrives.

The install was fairly easy, say a 4, for patience and being careful. The hardest part, not including putting a knife to the headliner, was fishing the wiring down the inside of the A-post and out. I ended up using a 3 foot piece of high tensile wire to get it done. After that it was make the splices and connections, test, and close up.

As for the Sport Trac cluster, it just came Tuesday. I was going to install today at work but forgot my battery and leads to calibrate it after swapping the odometer. I hadn't thought about putting in LED's- I might have to do that while I have it out.

Actually the compass works great. You have to select the zone you live in and then drive in a circle until it calibrates (over simplified).

Haha, well thats good. I figured yours worked. I mean is it all internal in the OHC as for calibration etc? In other words, once you power up the OHC the compass will function?
