The cruise control buttons on one side of my steering wheel won't light up...just quit working a few days ago (03 Ranger 4x4).

Can I...and how to fix myself..or does a tech/mech need to fix it?

They are easy to replace. Dissconnect the battery, then pop the bolt covers out on either side of the steering wheel just behind the cruise switches. Use an 8mm socket and take both bolts out and then pull the airbag out far enough to disconnect it and set it aside. Then its just a matter of unscrewing the phillips head screws and unplugging the side your having an issue with. New switches from Ford are a bit pricey but you can use the switches from a Ranger from 98 to 03 with no problems. Also can use the switches from several years of Explorer and Sport Trac but they come in either blue or green light colors. Hope that helps some!
