Default Seat Belt dinger

I would like to stop the seven chimes that occur when you start before buckling up - or when you turn the radio on.

I note two blue wires going to the buckle - if I short these two wires together, does that simulate "buckle latched"? - and if so, are there any other subtle things that might happen, like an airbag deployment or an e-mail to the NTSB?

Truck is a very nice 2003, and I have eliminated almost all other noisy reminders.

Oh - no need to tell me I should fasten my seat belt - I have been using five point harnesses for decades, and always seem to be able to remember them in a timely fashion without dingers.

I did that, the day I got the truck. Seemed pretty silly, and I expected all chimes associated with the seat belt to be gone.

Nope - it stopped that insistent chime when you drove off with the seatbelt unfastened, but not the one where you start the engine, then reach for the seatbelt.

This is the last obnoxious noise I need to delete, and I am thinking that shorting the leads might be the same as actuating the microswitch inside the seatbelt receptacle.

I always use seatbelts - I am in little danger of getting a ticket. I have no chimes on my 1965 Mustang Convertibles - the speaker is disabled on the BMW, and I have yet to fly an airplane with seatbelt chimes. If Ford thinks so little of my intelligence that they have to design a system that cannot be bypassed, then I might reconsider my lifetime allegiance to the Ford brand. Their recent engineering, in my opinion, leaves lots to be desired.

Is it through the radio or through a actual dinging mechanism? If its not through the radio find the dinger and kill it

or do what I do and push down on the red seat belt release when it starts dinging...shuts it up every time.

Wait your talking about the chime when you first start it up...I never thought of that as a seat belt reminder and hardly even hear it anymore(got use to it). This isn't just a ford thing either, its in most vehicles so don't go jumping off the Ford ship just because of this! Theres probably a relay or fuse that you can pull to stop the chime somewhere.

Most vehicles have a speaker somewhere, where one can disconnect one wire and be done with it. Ford experts tell me this is not possible with the GEM concept.

I have done the leventy million step process to eliminate the driveaway chime. I have gone in and reconfigured the wiring harness to stop the door open chime. I still have the innocuous door open ding, and will keep it, but I shall interrupt that seat belt chime.

As to Ford engineers - Toyota gets 25 mpg with the same size truck and same size engine, yet I get 15.7. The only way to turn off the autopilot while retaining the set speed is to flash the brake lights - a safety concern that is not part of any other cruise control I have ever used. The air conditioning or blower cannot be turned off and still have ventilation with the windows closed. The gearshift is rubbery.

With engineers like these, we need the Japanese! What happened to Ford between 1966 and now, to convince so many folks to buy Toyotas?

You can easily twist the Piezo chime off the circuit board with a pair of pliers. This will end the seat belt chime. But also ends the reminder that you left the keys in the ignition or left the headlights on.

If you disconnect the under seat wires, you may affect the SRS auto tensioning system so I would be careful on that one.
The seat belt minder chime can be turned off.
Read Seat Belt Minder in your owners manual

My 2011 Ranger Owners manual procedure
says to buckle and unbuckle 9 times.
The lights did not flash appropriately and
the procedure did not work.

I read another set of instructions that said 3 times,
so I tried it and it worked the first time.

Hate those damn chimes too.
