Lol, I'm trying to modify my cluster with led's on my DD and it's not going so well. I've gotta remove my cluster to work on it, then reinstall to drive to work.

Oh well, I still need to do an Odometer swap from my stock gauges to my Sport trac gauges.

More updates as of the back lighting portion is basically done. I have 72 LEDs just for the back lighting. I know being making LED shaped rings that I will mount behind the needles in 14mm size holes I have machined into the cluster itself. This will make the needles really intense.




Next I took the stock radio apart, it has LEDs in it already (green ones) I have to add resistors, remove these LEDs and switch over to amber ones that use less current and voltage (thats why I need resistors)

Next I took small pieces of vinyl plastic, and cut 14mm donuts out of them. I mounted 3 mini SMD LEDs and connected it with 2 240 ohm resistors in series to drop the current below the nominal amount. I soldered them together on the ring, and the needles will go over these because I have machined these holes in the cluster to fit the needle LEDs.

Okay, I have been looking at all of this and what you have been doing. I now know how to do the cluster and Hvac with the LED strips. Did you use resistors for the strips or just connected them to the stock bulb socket? And the needles are crazy, if I know how to do that, my next project is this. As that being said, any help on that subject I would greatly appreciate it sir. Thanks

Yeah, they fit nice and snug I can get them to actually stay just because its snug enough I won't even have to glue them in, but I'm still going to use some glue/epoxy for good measure. I had to drill 14mm holes directly concentric with the stock holes that the needles pass through the plastic clear faces of the cluster. The windows on the gauge faces are the same size as the ring so none of the output is hidden.
