I am confused about you saying not to paint the interior, but then you say to use plastic spray. That is what I'm using. It is paint specifically for plastic. It fuses with it. And then I am putting clear coat over it. So that makes it shiny. And trust me, by the time it would even get close to cracking and flaking, I will definitely sand it down and fix it. I won't let it look bad.

Here's my take on spray cans... too much volume, not enough pressure! Makes things very splotchy.. Its either hit or miss unless you're a perfectionist

I use an airbrush for work and I have painted a few of my interior pieces silver. We use a urethane type clearcoat as our clear. When mixed correctly with hardner, fisheye remover, and some reducer (to thin it out) it will give you the shine you're looking for. An airbrush works amazing!

What kind of airbrush do you have? Like a small one for model cars, etc? Or do you mean the kind a body shop would use? I have an Aztek one for model car type stuff but I just haven't mastered the mixture of air pressure and how much thiner/reducer in relation to the paint. When I figure all that out, it will be cool. I'll be painting everything! Until then, I'll stick with my cheap $4 cans from Walmart and be happy that it looks as good as it does. When I get to that point, I'll sand it off or buy new parts off ebay and start over.

I have a question; when you spray the air vents, is there something special you did?

2001FordRanger is right. For the ones on mine that you can pop out, that being the passenger side just stick a screwdriver in and carefully pry it out. Try not to break the tabs like I've done before. In the center part where the radio is, I just took the whole thing out and painted all of it. And for the driver's side, the air vent on my truck is molded into the entire dash piece. I took the whole piece out and taped off around the tan color and just painted the black pieces.

I have some more pics of what I finished this week. I will put them up later today.

Hey folks im having a problem. I have finished painting most of my interior and I notice the next day that the vinyl part on the door panel was really sticky. its probably the same part on the rangers form 98-2001. I painted it white and wondering why its so sticky. if i cant find why i am going to do it in white leather instead. the same paint is on the other parts of the door and not sticjy but i assume thats becaus its a different material. please let me know.

Just for reference, which part are you talking about? The armrest part, or the more fabric-like part that has small holes in it?
I painted both, and both are sticky. I painted these sunday, and today(tuesday) they are nearly tolerable. I believe it will get better, but may take up to a week. Also, if it is hot and humid in the area you are painting, like it was when I painted, I think this makes it worse.

yes those are the pieces. its the vinyl parts with preforated holes in it. man they are still sticky as i believe that the Krylon (fusion) paint that i used just does not work with vinyl or leather material. i really wish i could do something about it becaus ethe erest of the interior is great. if i wait any longer i will just get frustrated.

I also was thinking about removing that preforated pieces from the door. looks to be held on by plastic hardened glue; if thats the case i could cut the glue apart and just put a white pieces of leather upholstery their which would be really nice.................... ( has anyone ever taken that specific piece off the door panel. thanks

You must be a perfectionist then... haha jk sometimes it does come out well.. i sprayed my grill black with a rattle can, and it looked amazing but a few weeks later it started cracking and chipping.. mostly because it was done with a can rather than corectly with a gun or airbrush and freeway driving doesnt help either. SO then i decided to do it the right with my airbrush from work and this time i spent more time the prep work, scuffing, sanding, cleaning, taping off etc. and now it looks better and has yet to chip.. and its been a few months!

I sanded, scuffed and waxed/grease removed my interior pieces and they turned out great... but i still gotta paint the black around the gauge cluster, the fuse box cover, and a few other little odds and ends.. i'll post some pics later..!

Paasche' Airbrush and bottles.. its small, but it has a #5 tip in which gives it a really big spray pattern. a 30oz. bottle will hold enough paint to paint quite a few decnt sized pieces.. and mixtures aren't really hard for an airbrush.. you don't have to be as exact as you would with a gun....

Cool thanks for the info Cali Ranger.

2001FordRanger, I would say what Cali Ranger is talking about with all his stuff would be most important... prep work. I have not painted those parts but I see where they could be extremely sticky just because of the material they are made of. I don't know if the paint would hold or bond with that very well. As for mine, I have probably put so much Armorall on them, the paint would just run off if I even tried. I don't think you could sand that area very well.

I noticed the other day when I had my door panels off, there are lots of tabs and things on the back holding all the pieces onto it and I remember seeing ones that held the armrest part on. One of the other guys on here has painted those. Let me check and see who it was and then you check out their page and ask them about it.

Old Skool1972 has painted the whole arm rest, so you may want to check with him about that
