Tools needed
Phillips Head screw driver or Torx bit. Depends what model year OHC you have
Flat blade screw driver
Exact O Knife/Razor Bade
Step 1:
Unplug the plug on the screen unit:
Step 2:
Remove the 8 screws that are circled in red using your Phillips screw driver. On the '98+ units, they are held in using Torx screws.
Step 3:
Open up your Garage Door opener door/tissue holder
Step 4:
Release the 2 tabs
Step 5:
Remove top cover from the base. May have to wiggle and gently pry it off.
Step 6:
Remove computer and lights
Step 7:
Flip Over to release the wire harness connection
Step 8:
Now to take out the garage door button. Press the metal rod at one end to unhook it from the holder
Step 9:
Wiggle the button out through the back
Step 10:
Remove metal clip that is by the removed lid
Step 11:
You should now have something that looks like this. There should be no buttons or metal clips on the housing.
Step 12:
Mask off the garage door opener holding area. Use the Exact O knife or razor blade to make the corners nice and tight
Step 13:
When you paint you can use what ever color you like. I recommend Krylon Fusion paint. Make sure to clean the surface really good. Hang OHC housing up or lay flat on something and paint. Let it sit in the sun for a few hours to properly dry. Once it has dried you can paint the inside of the garage door holder. Just mask off everything but that are.
Step 14:
Reassemble in reverse order

After:
