This is older - but can I butt in?
Birch IS better for enclosures than MDF.
Birch is stronger, lighter, and maintains better resonance capabilities.
There is NOTHING wrong with MDF, at all. There's a reason most people still build boxes out of them - BUT when you get into building walls/large enclosures and need more strength and need to reduce weight, the birch is well worth the investment.
