yep, they've had V6's with manual transmissions for many years in the 1500's. the ford 1/2 tons have also had V6's in them for some time as well.

I love these trucks and the 4.3l. But I was a GM guy first, and still am for the most part (I know...I know...booo). My Dad has a 95 Chevy k1500 4x4 with the 4.3l and 180k on the odo, I pulled a 3/4 ton V10 Dodge on 38's buried to the axles out of the mud with that truck. I wish he had the manual, but he hates them lol Damn good trucks.

----------

Did I mention Dad's is extended cab, and gets 19-21 mpg freeway? It's not to bad, but not great, no offense to the 4l in our trucks, but these things will eat them...all day long from my experience.

yeah the 4.3 Vortec is a great motor...the 4.0 SOHC can hang with it, but the 4.0 OHV, forget it. Its too low revving. My truck in stock form is supposed to be quick because its a 4.0 manual in a regular cab, but I always got walked on by my friends old Sonoma even when my truck was stock. (he had a supercab w/ the 4.3V)

what helps the 4.3 is the extra torque IIRc they have close to 260 lbs ft of torque and prob at a lower rpm then the sohc 4L

I've owned 2 of them. They have about the same RPM band, and at most 250 ft lbs of torque, the earlier ones are less, but still kill the 4.0s especially the OHVs. My 96 Blazer with half the miles would walk away from my ranger. My 91 Jimmy though, would walk away from the 4.0 but not by a lot.

Its funny cuz my buddy complained that the 4.3 had "too much torque and not enough high end" but that's exactly what's wrong with the 4.0 OHV. Compared to the OHV, the 4.3 was very high revving and loved to open up to 3500-4000rpm when he got on it.
