i think with this truck being manual it would be a mini beast and go faster then most would give credit for.. I wouldnt mind at all to have this truck. plus the 4.3L sounds better at idle then the SOHC but thats my IMO

my brother has an sohc and i have an ohv in my ranger and to be honest i prefer my ranger much more power wise and torque and everything hes an auto and has more miles than me but ill blow him off in 3rd gear and he really lags behind me but top speed he has got me. not that im racin haha....just a little of what ive seen.

----and im pushin 33's...he is stock explorer...well one size bigger tires. i mean im really happy with these motors......and i agree about the 4.3's. they are some powerhouses thats for sure.

I'm not a big GM person unless its old school, but My buddy has a 01 extcab flareside lowered as static as you can go with the 4.3/auto. I LOVE that truck.

i am pretty sure the determining factor on why your ohv can keep up with sohc is that you have a ranger (compact truck = light) and your bro has an explorer ( midsize to fullsize suv=heavy) thats why

Static means lowest you can go with a suspension drop. Some you can get almost all the way on the ground without bagging it.

Not all of those vortec 4.3s were good motors my buddy had a 96 dime with a 5spd and static dropped, and he blew his motor because some ******* spider valve was bad it blew a rod...he got caught doing 135 in a 70 in Utah if that tells you how this truck was built, oh he got a $1700 fine for that was it

I agree there are a few engines that can be bad in a good bunch... I know a lot of 4.3L that were treated like shit, never maintained and still ran (sounded like a sick cow but started easily enough lol)
