Re: Electric 1997 Factory Ranger
Yea Ford designed it for a "Fleet" vehicle build.. Stars, NAPA, Oriellys delivery type vehilces to cut costs down on both carbon tax cuts in production use as well as for those smaller end users. Not a vehicle you can really tow anything with unfortunately and or back into water at a boat dock either.. lol
the rear wheels actually have motors in each wheel rather than say a Differential and axles. Its an interesting vehicle and the one note I would like to point out IS the truck went into production, it was limited to 4 years and I think actually was 96-00..
wait..
My bad.. 97-02

Re: Electric 1997 Factory Ranger
They were never prototypes. They were produced for use in California where there was expected to be legislation requiring a certain percentage of zero emission vehicles put in service in future years. Ranger was not the only vehicle put in service in anticipation of this, there were two others that come to mind. Times changed, the legislation didn't come to be, and at the end of the long term rental period, oops, lease, same thing, ROFL, Ford opted to sell some of them. This, unlike GM that insisted on crushing all but two of them, cars that were popular beyond all belief and with customers fighting to keep them. Nice going GM, you people are the greatest,, killing off a product that your customers loved and even having to steal them back from customers that refused to surrender.

I thought for sure that the electric trucks were 98 and 99 years. And all the pictures of the EVs I have seen had the tach type cluster (with different gauges obviously)
Weird thing for me, running the VIN says very little and doesn't mention it being electric.

Re: Electric 1997 Factory Ranger
Model year doesn't jibe with the wiki info and I've never seen a pic of one with the 93-97 front end like that one has. Somethings up.

Re: Electric 1997 Factory Ranger
Detroit Edison, now DTE, had one of these, it wouldn't surprise me if this wasn't the one, seeing it's in Holly Michigan. They proudly toured all the power plants and company locations with it. The theme of the tour? "The Future is Electric". They even had vanity plates made that said the same thing, and all us employes had to do was ask for one. Don't know where mine went.
Hey Keegan, aren't you down by Holly, or are you over by GR?

And a Border Collie that likes it too!!

I moved back to Kalamazoo area about a year ago when I transferred schools. Went from living in Flint and Novi (50/50) to living back around Kalamazoo

Re: Electric 1997 Factory Ranger
Ah, I didn't know that, I thought you were over in Novi. Ya likely made a good move getting out of there. Just too many people with an attitude over there. Driving 96 between 23 and 275 SUX!!!

Come on now.. these days you dont have to wander far out your door to find "duhhh" anybody.. lol
I was raised just South of Detroit in Trenton / Southgate areas.. And being an O.C. brat and returning there in 09'.. you should see the "Duhhhh" factor in SoCal.
I somehow avoid it in Vegas although I keep wondering why so many people come here to lose there money.. lol

That first sentence is sooo true. SoCal? Been there, done that, it's a beautiful place to visit, but I wouldn't wanna live there! LOL
I could never understand the giving of your money away, hey, I'll hold my hand out, and they can fill it. Same thing, I think.
I spell it "Duhtroit", because so many people, including some of the "residents", when calling the "po'- leese", insist on saying Deetroit, it's French dumbdumb, it's pronounced "Duhtroit". But yeah, "duh" works there as well.
I'm from just south of you, Monroe, small world, eh?

You're telling me! I used to drive all 3 of those roads daily, first 6 months I lived there a bad driver caused me to total my 2006 Ranger.
On top of that, my school was going downhill fast, my boss was one of the worst I've ever had, and when I looked around I realized there was no reason for sticking around. I was getting way stressed out for a lot of problems that would disappear if I transferred out.

Re: Electric 1997 Factory Ranger
I couldn't do anything for mechanical, but I'm near Holly if anyone wants me to check it out. Well, near holly after the 24th, I'm on break between work and school.

Re: Electric 1997 Factory Ranger
Move back to Flint. A little extra lead in the potable water is fine, and bottled water will be your friend.
