But I bet its got rust issues or engine/tranny issues to be that cheap. Hell 2wd reg cabs around here go for about that price.
Rockers are rusting and has a few dings and scratches but otherwise runs good

Just bought an 89 4X4 Xcab 2.9L 5 speed for $1200. It probably has a zillion miles on it but it drives down the road and has no rust and minimal body damage.

Smile Re: Is The Ranger Market Crazy?

I bought my 1997 Ranger STX, 4x4, Auto, 4.0L, very good condition, 94K miles from my neighbor for $2500. All the tires were in good shape, no known problems.

CarMax had given him a standing offer for $2500 for the truck, good for 10 days - no strings. I think the Blue Book wholesale price was about $2500.

Turns out it needed a new thermostat and a couple of hoses, plus a little cosmetic work (new dome light).

I'm thinking I got a really good deal...

I think we are looking at a couple more years before the used market levels off to reasonable levels. You have to hover over C-list or your local ads and literally jump on anything that turns up, cash in hand.

Good luck, it's out there!
Absolutely correct....

Hell if you think the Ford Ranger market is bad, go check out what kids want for a 92-95 Civic Hatch that's beat on.. $800 car in good condition according to KBB and they want like $4k+

I bought my 99 last year. It had 200,000 on the 2.5L and is a manual. She was pretty beat, but that's nothing when you do your own work. I picked her up for $500 and She's been real good to me.

That 2.5 is the 3rd gutless wonder of the world, but roumor has it it's supposed to be able to outlive a k&n air filter. I guess we'll see.....

My grandmother bought my '94 for me about 2 years ago at the time it had about 118K (I've taken it to almost 140k now) and she got it from the OO for I believe 2300 because a neighbor had tampered with the starter because he wanted it but she sold it to us anyway lol. just had to reconnect a wire and it started right up and ran like a dream. it's had some issues lately but most of them are related to lack of maintenance like changing the trans fluid but besides that its still a pretty solid truck and I can easily see myself buying another one in the future, but it will definitely be extended cab lol single cab isn't very much fun for a big guy like me.

It really just depends what part of the country you're in. In some places like around here Ford Rangers are very hard to find and it other parts of the U.S. they're all over the place and people look at you like you're crazy when you tell them they're hard to find.
And it's also pretty hard to find a Ranger that isn't beat all to hell and that doesn't have 15 cigarette burn holes in the seats.
It's the Rangers that have been taken care with straight bodies that are hard to find.
Most of the dealers with Rangers have the price marked up to $2500 - $3500 more than it's really worth. I'm seeing 2004-2006 $8500 Rangers marked up to $12,500
