The tyraps worked fine on my truck.Whats kind of funny is I used to do this at the golf course on there gas powered carts ,but there I just used a tab off a beer can on the cable at the carb.I could pass my brother on the fairway everytime.

I think I am going to have to do this again , I might have lost one of the zipties I installed , my throttle is a bit sluggish again . It sure does make a bit difference

Holy #$^&!! I thought this was pretty dumb when I first read it. Did it this AM and it feels so much more responsive I can't believe it. I didn't notice a big differnce at WOT but the low speed, off-idle response is instantly noticeable. I wouldn't say mine shifts smoother, but it does seem like the kick down/downshift works better for some reason. Dollar for dollar the 3 cents this cost me is the best mod yet. Thanks guys.

Did this mod last night when i found a couple of zip ties in my room. It works great and my Ranger is definitely more responsive and yes the shifting seems smoother for some reason. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

I've been thinking a lot about how good this worked-- and at the same time how imprecise the wire tie method is. Seemed to me that (other than just replacing the cable) there should be a better, tighter way to dial this in. A tiny bit of free space at the cable attach point translates into quite a bit of throw at the pedal-- not to mention the fact that the cable will undoubtedly continue to stretch.

I've seen these things is use somewhere... maybe on a bike or hot rod?? but I couldn't remember what they were even called. I called a couple shops and they had no clue what I was talking about... but thank to the power of google-- here they are!

So... what you would do is cut the end off the existing cable, slide a clamp in place and tighten the set screw exactly where you need it... no need to settle with the increments allowed by too few or too many wire ties!

After reading this thread i thought of the same thing! I have experience using something similar to this on my BMX bikes brake cables. Only problem is what happens if it fails? I have had many of these loosen with vibrations from jumping my bike and then I end up brakeless..... Good idea just not sure if it is worth the risks.

You used to be able to buy those in the HELP section of your local auto parts store. Last time I bought some it was at Advance Auto.

Ya Derek.. I was kinda thinking the same thing, it would be hard to butcher the end of that cable without being absolutly sure the new clamp wouldn't go anywhere. Actually when I first started to google for it, I expectd to find something on a bike parts site. I hoped to find one where the barrel went lengthwise on the cable with the setscrew entering the side.. and maybe it would have a slot in the side to slip over the cable so you wouldn't have to chop the cable. Oh, well I'm guessing my wire ties oughta be good for a year or so.

minigma: ya that figures! Here I was calling specialty fastener places, and there's autozones and OReillys all around me.. I would've bet they wouldn't ahve these.

Cant wait to notice the difference.
I crawled under there when i was putting my tilt steering wheel in, and checked it out, just got to get some zip ties.

You'll be happy you did! I'm kinda waiting for some tech input on this.. especially the "shifts smoother" part we keep hearing. I can't help but wonder if the electronic tranny isn't a bit screwed up by having the throttle position out of wack.. I'm still just amazed at how much difference 3/4 inch slack made!!!
