Default Re: How to: Throttle Cable mod

*LOL* Okay...dipstick Mavvy did this last night, with no less than 5 small ties...only to realize today that I'd done the wrong cable (the kickdown), which, in turn, gave weird shifting and let the truck get sucky on gas. So, tonight, I cut off two of those ties, and left three (because there was mega-play in the kickdown cable), and then put three of the same size on the proper cable. MAN! I can't keep it underneath me! What a difference! Gonna drive it a while to see if there are any adverse effects having the ties on the kickdown, but right now, I am EXTREMELY happy with this mod!

So there is suppose to be a spring on the cable? My 95 doesn't have one.

Yes but the cable itself gets loose over time so to take up the slack in the cable use zipties or a piece of fuel line if your cable is really streched out.

Just did this - put on 2 small zipties, kinda shocking how much play there was in the cable. After a quick test drive, I'm really pleased with the difference in feel. 1st thru 3rd are more responsive, acceleration in 5th is improved - great mod, well worth the frozen fingers. (its 12 degrees in upstate NY right now)

I been thinking about doing this. This is probably a stupid question so I'm ready for a stupid answer. (LOL) Can you adjust the throttle cable instead of using zip ties?
Thanks in advance

I heard someone say before that there's an adjustment under the hood. Or you can go purchase a new cable instead but that's way more work.
