Default Re: How to: Throttle Cable mod

Did this on not only my Ranger but on an 01' Camry and an 03' Savana Box Truck we use for work. Improvements were had all-around for all vehicles.

It simply improves (or restores, depending on your vehicle) the acceleration and response factor overall and provides a measure of safety factor too - I would venture to say that this applies to most vehicles with an old-style throttle cable. Now you have an engine that will spool up and react faster as well potentially saving you and yours from a split-second accident by having available power faster than before. That is the best side effect overall, IMO.

This how to caught my eye, so I ventured on out to the truck and sure enough I had slack. Threw 3 1/8" zip ties on and the throttle response is much better without the slack. This morning I noticed I didn't have to floor it to get kickdown. This is an easy quick fix for a stretched cable, but I consider it temporary. I'd feel much better installing a new cable. Makes me appreciate the solid throttle linkage on my mustang.

yeah, just lay on your back with your ass kinda hanging out of the truck, but be sure that you have your flashlight where you can reach it.

What I did was connect the tie and pull it do it would fit over the knob on the end of the cable, then all I had to do was tighten it a tiny bit. Made it a lot easier.

i did this differently since i did it in the dark this morning and it was really hard to get up there so i put mine in front of the spring (between spring and arm) should i redo it? i dont see why its bad and how it is any different asides from the spring seat not sitting into the hole

i also fit one, i probably could have put one more smaller one on
