Don't need it. Don't want it too tight. Already keeping the high rpms and is amazing off the start. its only 1/8 inch. Great acceleration uphill. Was having to let off then push it again to accelerate.

Just finished this, took about 5 minutes and 3 small zip ties. It got rid of about 3/8" of slack and i could tell the difference immediately, much more responsive.

To add my two cents.

Mod went well. But I noticed something else. Mine is one of the two cable, the other being the kickdown, pedals, as it is an 89 2.9 4x. When I pushed the pedal all the way, the second cable never engaged, it had also stretched. It took three zips.

Just read every post in this thread and then went outside to look at my 3 Fords... 1994 Bronco: cable is nice and tight, 1993 aerostar 3.0L auto needs some ties but it has 2 cables I would assume the top is throttle and other is kickdown but not sure, and finally 1999 Ranger with 3.0L auto could probably get 1 large zip on it. My Aerostar is definitely going to get this mod, should I only do it on 1 cable or both? Thanks for the info!

I think the 2nd one is for cruise control. Not 100% sure but I wouldn't put one on thete.

The second cable routes towards the trans on this 89, not to the engine bay, so I suspect kick down.

I did put tiewraps on the suspected kickdown, as at full pedal depression it never engaged, it had stretched. I do agree that it should not normally be tiewrapped, unless in extreme condition, which I consider mine in. I have not done enough road time to get a good assessment of that mods effectiveness.

I just did the top cable but the lower does seem to be stretched pretty bad. Before I put the ties on I would have to really push it to get it to kickdown but it did very well afterwards. Might replace both and do the tuneup i have been putting off...

Can't you adjust the cable from the other end? In the engine compartment? There is an adjustable screw for that.

This is just simpler for most people. Guess it's easier than popping the hood and trying to get in there and work on the throttle cable.

Scratch the idea. I tried it and it works, but........
it also changed the RPM's
the Throttle cable mod works better
