5 Speed Manual Transmission Fluid Change.
This is a how-to on changing your manual transmission's fluid. This only applies to the owners with the M5OD transmission series.
What you will need:
1:Your Truck
2: 2.8qts of Mercron ATF
3:Ratchet
4:A 15/16 Socket
5: Drain pan
OPTIONAL: Creeper.
Soooo lets get started
Alrighty, First, chalk off all tires with emergency break on and in first gear (safety first guys)
Crawl under the drivers side of your truck and locate drain plug.
Loosen and remove the plug. Let it drain for a few.
NOTE: DO NOT LOOSE THE METAL RING ON THE PLUG.
There is a magnet attached to the end of the plug to gather metal shavings. Wipe it clean.
Reinstall the drain plug.
Just above the drain plug, locate the fill plug.
Grab your mercron.
Fill, and use the fill level plug to the left of the fill plug to check if its full.
For people with 4x4, the driveshaft is I the way of the full hole. I just weaves the mercron bottle around the driveshaft to fill.
Reinstall plug.
done!
Now you are ready to go!

Re: M5 Manual Transmission Fluid Change
Note:
Make sure your fill plug can be loosened before removing the drain plug! Don't want to be stuck with an empty transmission and a seized fill plug!

If its the M5OD Transmission (the 5 speed) then yes its the same process. And should use the same fluid.

M5 has no filter and no pan. So it's really easy to change the fluid

Re: M5 Manual Transmission Fluid Change
Just an alt. option for the 4x4 guys. It can be a real PITA to get to the fill hole. You can remove the shifter and fill from the top. ***DO NOT LEAVE TRUCK IN GEAR**** For filling thru the top.

Re: M5 Manual Transmission Fluid Change
One thing I figured out since I didn't buy quarts with the little nozzle for easy pouring of the mercon, you can pop the hood and run an old piece of air hose through the engine bay and plug it into the fill hole. Have a buddy up top with a funnel and pour it all in! Nice write up! Kinda wish I would have seen this before I did mine to make it a little easier on myself.
