I'm considering doing the same, plus the frame to rear axle line (so I can be 100% rubber line free)

Re: How to: Rear disc brake conversion for stock Ranger rear end
Do I really have to cut them brackets to get them to work? I know I'm going to have to slide the axles out. Also when changing the gear oil, what are most peeps using on here and do I need a friction modifier to be mixed in it? I'm about to do this conversion on my 02 Tremor really soon.

yes you have to cut them they mount to the back of the axle flange, I put mobile 1 synthetic gear oil in mine already set for LSDs no need to add anything which was nice.

It's not hard to do at all - get a $20 harbor freight 4.5" electric angle grinder, and spend around $5 on a pack of discs, and grind away. I'd never done anything like it before and I had mine cleanly cut in a couple of minutes each.

Re: How to: Rear disc brake conversion for stock Ranger rear end
I'm doing this at my job. I'm a heavy truck mechanic. Chop saw, plasma cutter, mig welder,... yadi yadi yah. I might even talk to my boss to help me out. This will be my 3rd disk brake conversion but my first one on a ranger. The other 2 was on a fox body mustang. I think I might have the hose shop across the street from my job make me some custom braided brake lines. I know the have different color ends on them. might get them blue to match my truck. Thank guys. Oh... I love the post and the write ups. I'll try to put some pics up or a link to Photobucket when I'm done.

Re: How to: Rear disc brake conversion for stock Ranger rear end
I noticed Mustang wheels on the subject Ranger, were wheel spacers necessary for proper wheel fitment??

Re: How to: Rear disc brake conversion for stock Ranger rear end
I know if you did the 5 lug disk conversion on a fox body mustang it will kick out the back wheels a bit. I believe because the mustang had to use 2 driver side axles off the rangers.
I think you must shim one of the caliper on the disk brake conversion for the ranger for similar reasons but the the ranger had 2 different length axles. "I think. Not too sure." I'll end up printing all this out and put it together in a binder so I have some instruction to do the job.

Re: How to: Rear disc brake conversion for stock Ranger rear end
Got my brake set up with turned rotors. Talked to the guys across the street from my job and they will make my custom brake lines. I'm going to replaced them all.

Re: How to: Rear disc brake conversion for stock Ranger rear end
Oh hell yeah Paul. I like to chill with other ranger peeps out here in this area. I'm mostly a mustang guy but the mustang is gone for now and currently driving the ranger. I'm hoping Ameriflex can make them brake lines for me this Saturday. I probably won't start till noon on my ride. I'm eating breakfast with the mustang club then heading out to LKQ to get me an upper control arm, then swing by my job and get the brake lines made and cut the backing plates. I'll hit you with a PM of my number so we can meet up. later bro.
