The most difficult issue is to find a salvage yard that will sell you the parts on an axle that's in tact. None want to sell parts off a complete axle! Who knows of a yard that will do this and ship if necessary?

By the time I gathered parts, it might be cheaper to just buy an exploder axle and throw it in especially if you plan to lower it

This is why you buy new, or off a mustang forum. You can get parts cheap from mustang forums. Just search. Corral is a great one.

This is true. You really have to do a pro's and con's list before doing this swap. Most guys already have money invested into their axle like gears and lockers and such. You'd throw that away if you do an expo swap. But you do end up with a 31spline, but most don't even need it.
Mustang rear brakes>Expo rear brakes.

hi, nooby here, with a question.
how easy is the swap of 1984 Mustang SVO rear discs to a 1983 Ranger? both have the 7.5 axles.
seen all the posts on the 90's mustangs and explorer swaps, but nothing about a low-mid 80's 'stang brake swap. thanks.

Is this swap compatable with a 1992 Ranger? (Axle code is 86) (What vehicle could be a possible donor?)
I also read on several existing threads that the master cylinder is not 'rated' for all four wheels having disk brakes and that there is also a restrictor valve located somewhere in the system for the rear set of drum brakes. What effect would his have on stopping ability?

Update:

I was able to find all the parts from a salvage yard on line. They sold me all the necessary parts to do the conversion for $200. I spent about 3 hours cleaning all the parts. I applied paint to the non-brake surfaces. I also swapped out one of my axles which had a bent flange and was making my wheel wobble. It took me about a day and a half to complete the conversion. All is complete and I'm glad it's done! No more drum brakes to contend with.

Yes it's true. i got them from a local shop (actually, Tre, i think you and Shane picked them up for me??? not sure...place in p-town).

Summit sells universal Russel stainless lines, but i wasn't too pleased with their quality of them really, so i went with this local place...

I finished the swap last night on my 92, but with one problem... that anti moan bracket wont fit due to clearance issues between the mounting plate and the leaf spring mount. Im gonna take them to school with me tomarrow and cut them down a half inch or so and reweld them to fit.

Awesome write up and info. I've been googling this for a while and other sites say it can't be done. Searching for the parts today to do this.

Just one question, you guys didn't have any trouble using your stock master cylinder?

Picked up an entire rear end from a 98 6cyl for 200$, so should have everything I need except pads. Rotors are actually in ok shape.

Just a question, but has anybody mounted the cutoff piece of the caliper bracket and then welded it back together while on the axletube? Just curious....
