thats what I did!!!! cept my axle was still on the truck and I used a hack saw.. After I completed this my truck slams to a halt in bout 50 ft from 55mph.
By the way, If anyone can get the parts cheap enough, you can use the calipers for the core charge on a brand new set from orilies, mine only cost 50 extra for brand new set.

Re: How to: Rear disc brake conversion for stock Ranger rear end
if you cannot find the parts you need, and they are out there somewhere, post a listing on craigslist or local online classified that you are looking for the part you need, I couldnt find anything until I posted one and got calls from 5 different people, usually if they havent posted them forsale, they hadnt a thought of them having any value and you can get them pretty cheap, maybe free.

I picked up everything from a local yard for 65.00 and then new calipers from rockauto and semi metalic pads for another 70.00 so total of 125.00 ready to install...now all I have to do is get er dun!

Just my thoughts on this (as I have a '90 Ranger also!). I would go with the axle and mod. You then have so many different axle options to suit your needs (limited slip, etc.), as well as flexibility of brake pads/disc options (because it will be based off of a Mustang rear setup).
It may a little more in the end, and take a little more time, but if you are patient and plan it out in advance, you can end up with a super sweet ride, at least on the rear!

You may want to invest in a ~$20 manual from the auto parts store on the Ranger. It will not only give you details on how to take things apart, but also provide the torque settings when putting them back together.
Sometimes the forums may miss a small detail in the procedure that the manual covers in depth.

lol.
It depends if you want the cobra brakes (more money, harder to find),
or the gt brakes.
I order mine (cobra brakes) from the ford dealer. However, you can buy a set from summit for a killer deal.
OR
you can buy from classifieds on mustang forums and save a little. All depends on which type, how much, and how fast you want your brakes.
