I order mine (cobra brakes) from the ford dealer. However, you can buy a set from summit for a killer deal.

OR

you can buy from classifieds on mustang forums and save a little. All depends on which type, how much, and how fast you want your brakes.
I want Cobra brakes and I was able to get everything but that bracket from o Reillys. I guess I will have to go to the ford dealer for that bracket then.

You pull the axles out to take the backing plate off.

Just pop open diff, take out center pin, then c-clips, then slide axles out.

Apologies for bringing up an old thread and for my ignorance, but I have a question. How does this mod affect the ABS system? Can you do this on any 28-spline rear, even if the truck is equipped with ABS?

It will work, doesn't affect it at all I don't believe. If it does, someone please correct me. But do a little bit more research on it but since this thread is on top now, someone is bound to come by ex. like me

If you have 4wheel abs, no worries. The computer does the proportioning for you. IF you only have 2wheel abs, most run it fine, but some do upgrade to a proportioning valve to dial in their braking.

Sounds good. Its an awesome upgrade. Doesn't cost too much more than redoing your rear drums.

I just finished the conversion, as the best option to buying new shoes and wheel cylinders.

Works great and stops great !

my only issue is the e-brake. I think i may need to extend my pieces of 1/2" copper tubing because its not grabbing tight enough.

right now ive got them cut 2 1/8" . any comments on that or how well your guys ebrakes work ?

I just wanted to also state, that if you don't want to do the mustang rear disc conversion, you can also get a expo 8.8 3.73 rear end that already have rear disk, and it would probably be cheaper than gathering all the parts for the mustang and with some modifications; it's a direct bolt besides having to swap out your master cylinder for one from a explorer.

I spent maybe $200 on my mustang swap....

try and buy an expo axle for $200 then rebuild everything also then install.... doubt it

I'm almost done with my swap from a 7.5, check out the info and pics under the construction projects to see what kind of project it turns into. Originally purchased an expo rear with discs for $200 and throw in an additional $250 or so to make it work.
