Finally getting around to doing this tomorrow. I have everything with exception of brake lines.... I tried to read in thread but hard to determine... Can I still use my hard lines I have now? Or will I have to get all new lines for rear. Also, it seems Currie no longer carries that kit or doesn't have it listed on new site. The one kit the user mentioned from JEGS is still available, which looks like essentially the same kit. I just want to make sure I have everything needed. Got calipers with the stock hard/soft lines going from them as pictured.

For my hard lines I just cut them to length and then re-flared them. Although sadly after bringing my truck to a brake shop, the brakes are still kind of soft and the backs aren't really engaging still sadly. Any ideas?

I've had the same issue since I did the conversion a few years ago. I swapped out the MC to an Expo unit which helped a bit, but still not where it should be.

I suspect the ABS distribution block may be the culprit (such as causing an impasse of fluid flow to the rear), but have not had a chance to look into any possible differences between my '00 Ranger and say a '97 Expo with four wheel disks. I'll try and do this in the coming weeks and report back.

Thanks for that. I'm thinking so as well as it's all been swapped and bleed. It'll be great info to have and to add to this thread

Replaced my stock ABS distribution block with a unit I pulled from a '02 Expo 4WD. No improvement in brake performance.
Next up will be another trip to the yard to pull the brake booster from the '02 Expo. Unfortunately I'm booked for the next couple of weeks so it may take awhile for me to report back.

I would buy a new brake booster before trying a used one. But that's just me. I found a remanufactured brake booster for my 92 on eBay for like 42 bucks

You mentioned the Explorer rear-end. I have a 99 4X4 and have been thinking about the Explorer rear disc set up and if the whole rear-end can be swapped out. Any comments on going that route?

Default Need Help and Information

On December 14, 2009 a member by the name of DangerRanger01 posted a How to
titled:

Discussion Thread: How to: Rear disc brake conversion for stock Ranger rear end

I just had this done on my 2002 Ranger Edge 3.0 v6 with the 7.5 inch rear end. Because I live where it isn't permitted to do the work myself I had a shop do it. The part numbers for the adaptor brackets given in the original post are no longer carried by Ford so it was necessary to get them from a junk yard. All other parts were new or reconditioned. The swap was easy and went great except one problem.

The picture showing how to install the emergency brake is missing and the mechanic who did the work was not sure how to do that so right now the emergency brakes are not connected. The new disc brakes work wonderfully!!! http://www.fordrangerforum.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

My question> Has anyone done this and do you have a picture showing the hook up? Is DangerRanger01 still a member and hopefully sees this post, and has more information and or the picture?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

It's discussed a few times in that related "Discussion" thread.

A copper "spacer" to take the slack is all that is needed.

Logan03CO
That's exactly what I was looking for. Looks too simple. I will give them the information and hopefully they can attach the parking brakes without any more issues.

I have only driven my truck a few miles since getting the disc brakes on the rear and I can say what a difference. I had one of the 2002 to 2009 trucks that had the rear break drum grabbing problems and it was a royal pain.

Thank you very much

I went to after market rear disc and the brakes don't seem to work very good. some people are telling me I need to change the proportioning valve. I picked one up that says that is what you need to do. Designed to fit models with 4-wheel disc brake conversions.

Holy crap that looks clean, nice. A proportioning valve would work, I've heard of people having good luck with explorer masters valved for disk/disk instead of disk/drum.
