None that i've heard of. It is really not needed, the three bolts are strong enough. People worry too much about that one bolt missing and think it's not safe or a hack job. It is as strong as your front brakes with only 3 bolts on.

Well it's the bolt's diameter that is a factor here, not how many of them. That is what determines its shear strength. There are two .5inch bolts up front, and three .375 bolts in the rear. They provide about the same strength against shearing off from the rotational force from the caliper due to braking.

Nice! That'll work. Just easier to pull the shafts, plus you probably need to change the diff fluid anyways. Are you going with gt or cobra brakes?

You are right on that, it's probably never been changed in the 170k miles it has on it. I took the shafts out when I pulled the junk yard axle apart. First time in a rear end. Doesn't seem to hard. :rimshot:

GT brakes, my 3.0 struggles to do 65 anyways. My biggest reason for doing this is that I hate hate hate drum brakes, and I literally needed every part, and priced out I think this going to be cheaper.

Put a bigger disk on the angle grinder cutting the brackets than I've used before. Fucking thing kicked on me while I was cutting the bracket on the ground and I got 5 stitches in my toe, so I'll continue this tomorrow. I'm such an idiot, should have been using my vice. I'd post pics, but I don't wanna gross you guys out.

I just got all the parts I need off of a '98 GT today at the local Pick and Pull for $86.57. Just need to clean, cut & paint everything. I'll probably put them on next weekend. Thanks for the sweet write up Grant.

90$, good deal!

Finally back to the project. I am running into issues with the caliper bracket not clearing the rotor. It's making a tiny bit of contact on the outside edge. I could easily correct the spacing with a washer on the caliper bracket bolt, but I wanted to see if any of you had this issue.

That is a normal issue. I think i forgot to address it in the write up. Only one side of my axle needed the washers to clear. Use a grade 8 washer

Alright good to hear. It was the drivers side that was doing it. Just did the passenger side, and it seems to clear fine, and spacing is even.

Be sure to use some Loctite on the caliper bracket bolts! One of mine came loose and fell out. My son found out about it backing out of a driveway and the caliper rotated aft around the remaining bolt and punctured a hole in my wheel. $100 lesson with a rebuilt wheel as a replacement. It could have been much worse of course.

did this modd this weekend, $80 bucks at pick and pull yard and thats with a sd third brake/cargo light. have to admit i jumped into this way to quick, over 10 hours of work and the truck was down for close to 27 hours. still gotta connect the parking brake. which side were washers needed to help clear, mine our "moaning" while going down the road, sounds like the pass side
