When you convert do you have to change your master out or anything? I pull stuff occasionally and my shoes were new. They are practically shot now and I know my drums need to be cut. So it sounds like a good time to swap.

Re: How to: Rear disc brake conversion for stock Ranger rear end
The master cylinder on my truck works perfectly with the swap. Not all years will though. Mine doesn't have any kind of proportioning valve or restrictor valve on it from the factory.

I did. I put a master from an explorer. You don't have to but I felt a little improvement.

I was going to do that too but the part number for the master cylinder was the same so I left it stock. Do I just need a proportioning valve?

A mc WITHOUT the proportioning valve is the one you want

Re: How to: Rear disc brake conversion for stock Ranger rear end
Are your brakes spongy feeling or? Mine were for a bit, then I gave it another shot at bleeding them. I bled them so much I refilled the master cylinder twice. They feel great now.

They don't feel spongy. They just don't feel that much better than the drums did. 4 wheel disc should stop much quicker than mine do, even with 33's

rebleed them, i think the mustang caliper bleed valve is off to the side so there could be trapped bubbles
edit: its not, but are your bleeders pointed up?

Re: How to: Rear disc brake conversion for stock Ranger rear end
I don't think they'll ever really be a vast difference because of the weight distribution. After all, our trucks sit up pretty high and they're light in the rear. It'll never stop like some modern cars with 4 wheel disc brakes. I figure it'll only be a small improvement unless your truck is slammed and you have additional rear suspension upgrades like a thicker sway bar, etc..

I never really felt much difference in the disc and drum set up beside it looks really cool.

Found on Craigslist all the parts to do the conversion. $100 for all. I know what I'm going to buy. Not gonna use the rotors or pads. I'll get slotted rotors and some decent pads. From a 2000 mustang 3.8 v6. I'll probably negotiate with him for $80 just cause I don't like to pay asking prices lol. Gonna be going this weekend some time and get them. What tools do I need and hat likes do I need.
