Only the FX4 level 2's had the 31 spline setup.

Ford Ranger - The Ford Ranger 8.8-Inch axle used 28-spline shafts. The exception is the 2002 FX4 and 2003 & newer FX4 Level II models which had 31-spline shafts.

Could you still fit a 15 inch wheel if you went with the mustang v6 calipers and rotors?

Re: How to: Rear disc brake conversion for stock Ranger rear end
I rebuilt my Trac-Lok and completed the brake swap yesterday. The one thing I don't like is the parking brake cable install. Since my cables are almost seized up anyway and need replaced, has anyone else used Mustang or Explorer parking brake cables to make the swap??
EDIT: The Mustang rear cables are too short according to the specs on AdvanceAuto.
I'll have to check out the Explorer specs. EDIT: According to Advance Auto, the Explorer cables are too short. One would likely work but not the other.
EDIT: I ordered new Ranger cables for now.

Re: How to: Rear disc brake conversion for stock Ranger rear end
The new cables made ALL THE DIFFERENCE. Some fine tuning to the length of the tubes you have to cut and everything works very well. I tested it on a SERIOUS incline and the e-brake held very well. No slippage at all.
But man alive are they a total bitch to get hooked up.

Re: How to: Rear disc brake conversion for stock Ranger rear end
Hi guys I just finished my front and rear cobra conversion on my 2000 model. Everything works great. I used the original RABS block instead of installing a porptioning valve. Stops perfect. The only difference is that I'm running a geo metro booster and master cylinder for clearance (bodydropped truck).

protip..
took me awhile to figure this out. but the springs on the mustang calipers for the parking brake are stiff as hell! very hard to get them in. i ended up putting them in my jaw horse, closing it and winding back the spring (eye protection is recommended...). i then wired the spring to itself to keep it in that same position, put it in and cut the wires off. not sure how else that can be explained. made it easy to hook it all up.
