Sounds feasible .. I wonder how many aggravated customers they have? Haha

It seems like its a lot easier to find the cobra rotors and calipers than it is to find GT parts.. but everyone keeps saying there MIGHT be clearance issues with a 15" wheel. Has anyone actually tried putting cobra parts on with 15" wheels to verify this interference? I've got stock 01 XLT wheels:

OR if someone with Cobra brakes could measure the distance from center of axle to outermost edge of caliper? Then I could measure the inside of my wheel and get an idea of how close things would be in there.

Thanks!

Yeah man were in the same boat. I've got 01 4x4 xlt wheels and am wondering the same thing. Only question is- since I'm 4x4 are my wheels 17 inch rather than 15? Sorry I'm still figuring out things with wheels and tires.

Also has anyone used that kit from summit racing to chime in on what exactly else we should get?

I believe your setup would have came from the factory with 16" wheels (100% guarantee it didn't come with OEM 17's).

Just read the sidewall of the tire & it will say what size for sure.

lol

Funny you mention that - I actually have done the rear disc conversion (shocking huh - lol). However, I used a complete kit offered by SSBC for mine.

It's a complete kit, so it's all 'bolt-on'. It comes with the needed brake lines and everything. You replace everything downhill from the center rear distribution block (mounted on differential) with the components from their kit.

The part number on my kit is A114BK. It's for the upgraded black powder coated version. The price for the standard setup is like $750ish give or take (JEGS - SSBC Disc Brake Conversion Kit (Natural Finish). The powder coated setup usually runs like $100 more.

Pricey, but I didn't want to use the modified Mustang bracket...so I felt this was the best way to make it all happen using brand new, quality parts.

I know tons of guys have used the 'repurposed' Mustang setup & had good luck with it - I just didn't want to go that route.

Haha i figured you would have done some top of the line conversion, i wish i could just do that but i don't have the money so it's probably gonna be mustang, do you think it's worth it on a 133k truck? The drums have been giving me issues so i was gonna replace them anyway and i was thinking i may as well just do a disc conversion for a couple hundred extra

Sounds like a solid plan to me. If they are acting up - then that's the perfect time to upgrade!

Like I said, guys have had great luck with this Mustang setup - It just wasn't for me.

Nope.

Perhaps I'm wrong - but 95% of the people never even inquire about one.

Even my SSBC conversion kit doesn't come with one & it's made & engineered specifically for the Ranger.

That said, it seems like they sell an aftermarket valve setup that may work if people think they are having issues (SSBC - Adjustable Proportioning Valve).

For what it's worth, here is what SSBC has to say about the matter in the install manual that came with my rear disc conversion kit:

However, should the user feel that rear wheel lock up occurs under some service conditions, requiring additional control, an adjustable proportioning valve is available from SSBC.

b) If a valve is used, install it in the brake line from the master cylinder serving the rear brakes. The Out port goes to the rear brake side.

c) When bleeding the system, adjust the valve by turning the knob clockwise until it stops. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN, THIS COULD DAMAGE THE VALVE.

Always saving the day man hahaha, so I don't need any valves or anything aside from what mentioned in the how to, correct?
