Reference this earlier post about abs. My 96 only has rear abs and the sensor is in the top of the differential. Shouldn't work any differently but definently mod at your own risk

After tearing into a JY-bought 8.8" axle, I found out how the ABS system works, and it's like this:

If you pull the diff cover off (after draining out the old fluid, obviously), you'll see the big gear--that's the ring gear. Attached to that is what looks like a saw blade--that's the gear that the ABS system uses for electronic pulse detection by the sensor.

As to the question, if a Ranger with ABS axle is used, the ABS system shouldn't be affected by this mod--the ABS system will still work, becasue the system itself gets the input signal from the toothed gear attached to the ring gear, which in turn is used to pulse the ABS system so that the system is what pulses the drums or calipers (which would be on your truck if you did this mod).

Hope this info clears up your question.

You also have the option of checking the differential tag as well. I'd check the tag regardless of what model they tell you it is just in case the rear end was modded.

Can't take credit for the pic. Thank google lol

don't know if its possible but, I would like the caliper to be in front of the axle, instead of behind. I know it does not make a difference in stopping power, I would like the look better. if this is possible how do I go about it? just flip everything over and do it in a reverse fashion?

Sounds great...I will visit a junk yard to look for the parts: flanges, anti moan brackets and calipers. Are these mustang brakes metric or standard? I want to bring the right tools with me.

I agree with you...it does not hurt to double check things out; it will save a lot of time and aggravations. Thanks for the information.

Sure I will do so. I was thinking on junk yard calipers as cores to avoid the extra charge for the rebuilts

Yea true. I didn't have to worry about that. I would buy calipers per loaded. I got them and they came with caliper, pads, bracket. Can't remember how much I paid
