For later model Rangers/ Mazdas, noticed that the 2011 Mazda B4000 comes from factory with rear disc brakes. Anyone else pick up on this, and if so, are parts available to adapt prior models?

Well, the parts listing is actually for 1995 Ford Mustang GT/V6 rear disk set up, figured posting new parts would be better than going on a scavenger hunt for used calipers and things like that, and I might be interested if for a good price, new ones go for 80 bucks shipped, and I'm too lazy to go look for used ones in a salvage yard.

Well my drums just started to grind, so I figured rather than drop $50 bux on shoes and turn the drums, I decided to take the plunge and do the swap. So far, I have the dust shields, backing plates, calipers, anti-moan brackets, 2 sets of good used pads for $137.50 + $54 for new Raybestos rotors. All I have left is to get the brake lines. Since this is a budget swap, I am going rubber on those. Speaking of which, does the stock Mustang rubber bolt directly to the Ranger hard line? I know the Banjo is 10mm, but the female end is suppose to be 3/16? I looked under the rear end today and saw the hard line to the drum. I figure I am going to cut the hard line and re-flare the ends to shorten em up a lil bit. Thanks to the OP 2 years ago for posting this mod. I appreciate anything that will make my truck safer!

I have some advice regarding this mod. Make sure you have your shit ready to go!!! I say this because my brake lines from Currie took a week to get here. Also, the fitting that screws into the wheel cylinder on the drum does not fit the currie line. Luckily my local napa had correct fittings for 29 cents a piece. I dont think coarse or fine thread is a problem from the GT calipers. I ran a coarse banjo into the drivers caliper, only to go back to the longer fine thread Currie Banjo bolt. Both bolts are tight screwing in. I won't know about any kind of leakage until tomorrow when I reflare my brake lines and bleed the bastard. I'll probably update then as well. What a freaking chore this has been. Also, dont do this mod if you are sick. My kid got me sick for the last week and a half, and illness just knocks you on your ass. So, make sure your not sick, and you have everything ready to go, and you will have disc brakes within 2-3 hours depending on your tools, expertise, swearing level, etc etc.

UPDATE:

As I got my money from school, I am now in the neighborhood of actually completing this swap! Sadly, no camera, so no pics. But at Cherry Picked Auto Parts JY, yesterday, was able to score both a '94 rear axle (8.8 ring gear and 3.08 final drive ratio), as well as the anchor plates (called the caliper bracket in the beginning, but actually is not the caliper bracket--the caliper bracket bolts to the anchor plate, which in turn is the bracket that has to be cut in order to be bolted to the axle tube flange). However, did have to go out and buy a full set of lug studs and nuts, as well as bearings and seals--both sides showed evidence of leakage, and I don't want to take the chance the bearings can be bad.

The good thing with the rear axle is that it has clips already mounted to hold the brake lines; however, the first question I have is, do you need the little line bracket that people have shown to be welded onto the axle tube? I was thinking of getting some scrap metal from school, running the line on top of it, and securing it with large worm gear clamps.

However, everything I'm planning on doing is coming together splendidly--I'm going to basically have the rotors and everything mounted on, save for the line hookups, when I do my 2" suspension lift. After everything is done, I'll have an additional two inches to run bigger wheels, as well as better stopping power.

I'll update on here when the project is completed.

Ironically, not quite, tequilaworms...the money I got is actually student loan money, so I'll have to pay that back. AND, I can use the money on my truck because the terms of the loans allow me to use the money on my "transportation" to school, i.e., my truck.

So yeah.

"Money from school" is always in the form of loans that have to be re-paid. If this guy got a pell grant from the government, that goes straight to tuition. Check your facts before you attack!

Negative, there is always people getting financial aid. That is not directly from a school but its for school and people abuse it all the time.

This may not be the case for this guy, but it deff came off that way. I stand corrected.

So let me ask you then, I am a student myself, I have a g/f, her kid, and my kid. If I use my loan money to maintain my vehicle, am I ripping off the tax payers? I would certainly think not. I agree there are people out there abusing the system, but I always give people the benefit of the doubt. I myself use my grant money to pay my tuition. In the end, that money is never enough for my tuition, so I have to tap my loan money too. Loan funds are for school and school related expenditures. Transportation is a definite expenditure. Being a student is difficult especially is your older like me.

Anyways, back on track, I did finish my brake conversion from this thread. I'll upload some pics this weekend of my final product
