I knew I wanted and a few others wanted to do this mod to finish off the Led swap and never saw any one do it yet. So I thought I would see if I could do it.

Well here we go....

Tools needed:

Soldering Iron
Solder
Small Flat Head Screw Driver
SMD Led's (Color of choice)

Here is how to remove the pods without removing the air bag






Couple pictures to show what I did.





You can kinda see the little nipple that just slips into the hole


Holes the little nipples slip into







Ok now on to the fun part.



You will have to pry them open, Flip them upside down and you will see there are 4 tabs that hold them together.

Next remove the clear rubber cover and you will see the boards we are going to work with.





Now Heat up the soldering iron.

Each SMD Led has a POS and a NEG just like the full size LED's. when you look at them you will see a corner that is cut. Just make sure you put the new ones back on the same way the old one came off.



I found it better to take off one and put the new one on then move to the next one.

After all the soldering was done reverse the steps and put them back in and test them.




BAM! All Blue

Thanks for the write up.

One small question is there any way you can explain the first 3 pictures in detail better? Maybe use MS paint and draw circles or arrows to what your referring too?

Also you left out the step to getting the airbag loose by removing the bolts under the steering wheel and where they are exactly located.

I will fix up the pictures when I have time. But yes the SMD's you have will work. Just keep in mind of the cut corner and what way it came off. I used the same SMD's that I used on the rest of my led strips. just un-soldered them and put them on the cruise boards so they are all the same color.
