Thanks, just fixed my 2001 and it worked perfectly! Saved me a ton of money as i thought I was going to have to take it to the Ford Dealer. Thanks to this info and Radio Shack it's fixed for $2.66.

Default Re: Passenger Air Bag Deactivation (PAD) Switch Flashing air bag light 2-7

I know the post and truck are old. I had the code 27 and replaced the passenger side airbag light.
My dash light and passenger airbag light are now on steady all the time. I have no sensor wires to the passenger seat.
I pulled the positive and negative battery wires and the lights are steady on.
Any tips and thanks

You didn't mention what year your truck is but here is some info from my 01 manual that may help, seems that a code 27 can also mean there is a short.

Normal Operation
The Restraints Control Module (RCM) has the ability to deactivate the passenger air bag under certain conditions. When the passenger air bag is deactivated, the Passenger Air Bag Deactivation (PAD) switch warning lamp will be illuminated.

The RCM monitors the PAD switch warning lamp for short to battery conditions. If the RCM detects a short to battery condition on the PAD switch warning lamp circuit, it will store a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B1890 in memory and flash a Lamp Fault Code (LFC) 27 (or higher priority code if one exists) on the air bag indicator.

Possible Causes
A PAD warning lamp short to battery fault could be caused by:
1. wiring, terminals, or connectors.
2. a damaged or inoperative PAD switch.
3. a damaged or inoperative RCM.

Your welcome, hopefully they are not too different then. I don't have info specific to a 98. Good luck, hope you get it fixed.

I've had this issue for a while now. I always assumed this would work but was always scared to mess with the air bag system. Thanks for the info! Wonder what sets this off for all of us?

Its cause the bulb burns out. If I am thinking right it is a closed circuit then giving the warning.

Tutorial works fine. If PAD is in dash and not in console, then slide out the ash tray. Remove two 7mm screws below panel and two inside top surface of ash tray. That whole unit is just snapped in place, so gently pry on left and right sides of unit. Then disconnect cable and follow the excellent tutorial instructions from there.
Ford dealer quoted $49.99 for parts and $210 for labor. Cost me $2.08 for parts and about an hour of labor.
