I should've taken pics of my throttle body. Looked like the inside of a cave. I soaked it and wiped it down and put it back in to soak again. I guess 304,000 miles without a cleaning will do that. I hope it all goes back together good. I am wondering about the inside of the intake. It looks horrible too.

holy toledo batman. take some pics of it after its cleaned for sure! and you can always just spray the carb cleaner inside the intake manifold or even seafoam it.

I reassembled everything just after I took those pics. I was afraid to clean inside the manifold. I just made sure there were no loose pieces and cleaned the flat surface where the throttle body mates up with it. Can the intake be cleaned without all that crap piling up in there??

well, really what it would do is it would break it up and burn it off. thats what seafoam does. it causes a big white smoke cloud to come out as your burn that crap off.

I ran seafoam thru the brake booster last summer. Should I do another can or try another approach?

Unfortunately, 300plus thousand miles of carbon deposits will not be removed by seafoam. At this point, ur best option is to remove ur manifolds and deep clean them. Grab 2-3 cans of berryman carb cleaner and some elbow grease. All the best...

I'm guessing that means there is an upper and lower?

Correct. Not that hard. Simply note the positions of everything as u remove them. Also your gas mileage will improve as a result of cleaning them.

Fireranger... I was going to PM you but your box is full...

Can you offer advice on my voltage issues?

Truck was running good yesterday (02 4.0 auto 2wd). Today on the way to work my battery light came on followed by my brake and then ABS light. I noticed my volt gauge was very close to the L. I replaced the alternator, I then had my old one bench tested and proved to be fine. I put in a new battery. No inprovement. I checked the new battery voltage and it was 12amp. When I started the truck it had not improved, in fact, the longer it ran the lower it got. Thoughts and areas to test please!

Performed this on my daughters explorer yesterday. The explorer was barely idling and ran like crap in general.
Within thirty minutes I cleaned the throttle body, mass airflow and the idle air sensor.
Wow!!!! That was simple with huge results!!!
It runs like a new truck!
Thanks for these stickies, no telling how much I saved by doing it myself

I broke my cruise control clip doing this. I fail at life lol. Off to the junk yard I guess. But, I have it rigged up with duct tape right now. Duct tape fixes everything!
