Default How To: Bedside Replacement

Arlight.. After searching for quite a while, I couldnt find a write up anywhere on how to remove bedsides. In reality, I didnt really need one anyways. Lol

Note: this is for stepside/ flareside beds only. from what ive read, the stylesides are spot welded on and you have to cut the welds off. steppies are just bolted on.

To start off, if you have a stepside bed, your besdies ARE made of fiberglass. I see people argue about this all the time. stepsides are fiberglass; stylesides are steel.

Pretty much the only tools youre going to need are a T30 torx and a 7/32 (or 6mm if i remember right). all of your torx bolts are the same size. A flat and philips screwdriver dont hurt either.

start by removing your bed rail covers if you have em. below that, there are 5 or 6 torx bolts to remove. take those out.

Next, pop off the black cover on the step of your stepside, below that, 2 more torx.

if youre on the drivers sides, its a good time to remove your gas fill cap and the 3 bolts that hold the fill neck in.

note: I believe these bolts are 12 mm. The ones on my truck arent correct, and i dont remeber exactly.

working your way back, there are several 7/32 screws that line the wheel well. take em out.

next youll need to remove the tail light. 2 philips on the inside, beinds the tailgate. 2 on the outside. and yes, you guessed it, another torx

finally, theres one last torx on the very bottom of the panel, behind the bumper.

Viola! your bedisde should lift right off. it is exacly the same for the other side, with the exception of the fuel filler, and putting it all back is just reverse disassembly.
