Re: 2.3L - Headgasket, top end seals, water pump, timing belt (replacement procedure)
Tap it lightly with a rubber mallet or similar tool.. Probably just corroded or stuck on with the RTV or gasket material a previous owner did.

Re: 2.3L - Headgasket, top end seals, water pump, timing belt (replacement procedure)
Any links to step-by-step for 2002 2.3L? Some parts are quite a bit different --- I can figure it out, but step by step would be nice!
Thanks

Sorry, but I believe my write-up is the only one available.

hmmm i'm guessing the only real differences between your write up ^^^ & that for a 2.5L lima would just be the orientation of a few things, right? & different part #s on the parts list?
i'm planning to do an intake cleaning + egr service. can't seem to get rid of my p1401 lol

Only difference is the intake manifold which changed in 95 to the our 2.5s use. I'm still chasing the P1401 to. I'm gonna try enlarging the ports on the sensor a bit to help with the flow.

Re: 2.3L - Headgasket, top end seals, water pump, timing belt (replacement procedure)
I know an older thread but anyone have the pictures saved? I am removing my upper intake manifold to change injectors and while I am there I am re-doing the valve cover gasket... but now I am going to test for a leaking head gasket.. hoping that's not the case but that's almost half the steps just in that process... I've never done a head gasket before so wanted to ask.... Seems straight forward, but would have no clue where to take the head to get it inspected. I don't think there are any places around me that do that. A dealer probably wouldn't do this plus I think their prices would be silly...

Please set up a dropbox account and I will send you what I have. I can't remember this old login for Photobucket.
Or PM me your email! It's only like 6MB worth of Facebook album photos I'm sending!
