I removed the silencer and cut a bigger hole in the front of the box. Lot moe difference in sound on my 3.0L. Now I just need to do the exhaust!

So you are removing 2 pieces total correct? The snorkel and the piece that was attached to behind the headlight?

Now just get a K&N Filter to complete the modification. I just did for $43.33 shipped from an Amazon.com vendor.

Crowbar is what I used... No wd-40...

----------

I realized I did this to my truck about a year ago before I knew it was a mod, and between this and the throttle cable, my k&n and exhaust it goes pretty fast for a big 4x4 with a tiny v6 I added a 3" front piece to mine to keep mud out but mud and water still gets in the intake pretty badly so I'm gonna work on a new idea...

I can't post pics in this thread??

So before I would cruise at 70 (like 77-78mph with the 32"s) in 5th the truck would not go any faster in 5th and now I cruise at 82-83 (90-91mph) in 5th and noticeably much more acceleration in high gears. Also I have never had one part of my filter get dirtier than another part.... Maybe because the places I go everything gets really dusty/dirty/muddy...

thank you for the how to,
i did that it easily with a flat head screwdriver to help to torque it out of my 2011 sport ranger.
i didnt notice any change in the sound or in performance of mpg ratio, i got infos and heard that without and ecu chip change for the simple reason that your computer is set to suck a certain amount of air and nothing more , you can change it via programmers or ecu chips.

Interesting...I thought all recent vehicles had ECUs that would adjust to your driving...man, am I misinformed.

This mod has nothing to do with performance enhancing, all it does is make it louder when you step on the gas. Your engine will function the same.
