I took the snorkel out and I stuck it back with the long side sticking of the intake housing box.

I got a question about when it comes down to cleaning a K&N air filter,I was wondering If I could use something from home instead of buying the recharger kit?

The cleaning solution removes the dirt and the filter oil, and you'll need to re-oil the filter for it to be as effective meaning you need the K&N Kit. Be careful to not over-oil the filter as surplus oil can be drawn through the filter and foul your MAF sensor.

Thumbs up Re: How To: Air Silencer Removal (Cold Air Intake)

Hey yall, Ive got a 2000 3.0 ranger and uh I did this little nifty trick today with my buddy as like a what the heck deal and just the removal of these two piece of plastic gave my truck substantial torque difference and let me attest, it sounds sickkkk, it gets up so fast, 1st gear shifts later, like 28 or 29 and the sound is only when accelerating, its not an annoying cherry bomb but a deep aggresive, but not overbearing resonate sound that fills the cab and surrounding vehicles quite nicely thank yall, DO THISSSSS

just did the mod on my truck, a 2005 2.3 with an A/C and it was a pain in the ass going around all the tubing...there is a slight and i do mean slight differenc in the sound and from what i can tell thats really about it. despite what all this stuff says I for one like the mod. Its something anybody can do and if nothing else it makes you feel like youve done something worhtwhile without costing you a dime. Cheers guys. Rangers are all about fun so its your truck. Do what makes you hapyy.

Small engines are all about air admission but not to gain HP, but to get better mpgs. After I did it, I went from 30ish mpg to 25. After a week, went back to 30+. I can notice the sound when I floor it, and I thought truck hesitated less when I turned the AC on, but after that week, the hesitation came back as normal.

Here's some reading for us all: Getting the most out of the Ford 2.3L

i've done this on all the vehicles i've owned and found that the only time you really notice the effects besides sound, is in the early morning cold air. This mod plus the throttle cable mod go hand in hand, you won't notice one without the other in my opinion...

Looking at this mod, I wonder how it can help. I have read through the several pages of banter but one question is still in my mind:

The piece behind the headlight that is removed in photos 6-8 appears to be a channeling device as it is larger than the snorkel that goes into your Airbox. From following through the steps in the mod, it looks like this piece is not reinstalled. Doesn't this remove channeled air by shrinking the air gathering area?

Maybe i have this wrong, but I don't get it.

Not trying to knock STL because so much of what I love about these forums has his avatar in it somewhere.

Can someone help me understand?
