Usually cold air = more O2 and hot air = less O2

Less O2 generally = more MPG and faster warm up in the winter.
(Mine guzzles gas like a V12 in the winter - 12.5 MPG sometimes out of this 4 cylinder) - dealer says nothing is wrong. go figure?

I do not usually haul anything nor tow anything so I need best possible MPG I can get. I drive with a light foot trying not to exceed 2000 rpm at any time.

I ran a K & N air filter for 5 years. Can't see any difference between that and paper when it comes to MPG. So trying the paper one for this season.

I did notice that my scangauge II reports nearly 40MPG on the highway if I drive 48MPH with the cruise on and not too hilly terrain. No idea if it is lying to me LOL.

Sounds like the people I constantly pass! !

Who ever experienced a lag can u post your rangers specs: was it a california emissions ranger? engine, year, auto or manual etc. I'm happy with my 2010 2.3 performance. I'm also running synthetic diff tranny and engine oil. I can pass those under 2k rpms people no problem and it pulls good for a 2.3. Im all for squeezing a little more power. I would hate to lose power.... anyone done this in a 2010 2.3 manual california emissions ranger and experienced a lag.

Anyone wanting to pass me up, feel free to do so. I don't mind a bit.

I am on no hurry to go anywhere (usually) so I hypermile within reason. Scanguage II does report large increases in MPG but I think it is lying. Hard to say because my vehicle use is too variable to tell. But the greatest MPG reported was around the mid 40's on level terrain and no wind with warm weather.

I have been checking other things on the internet. Some of my symptoms are a bad cam sensor, but I don't have any codes. Vehicle runs pretty well on the highway. On occasion I will notice a loss of power but not suddenly. Like having a vacuum leak sort of thing.
I even ran the rpm's up to 5K to blow out any carbon if there was any. Anyone got any ideas as what I shold do? Paying a bunch of money for diagnostics that won't yield the problem is not something I want to do. Nor leave me vehicle in an outside lot unprotected overnight for them to 'see' if they can find the problem. Some say if it was an injector it would do it on the highway. But it doesn't appear to do that.

I did manage to remove the silencer after a lot of effort. It made no difference in power or economy. It didn't make that noise that others say theirs does either. So I put it back in.

Speaking of power. Try using a PunchHHO kit. I hear they can either give you more power or better MPG depending on how you set it up.

On my 2010 2.3 manual there is two pieces to remove, the tube on the box itself and a shield looking thing in front is that right? If so what if I only remove the piece that is in the air box itself and leave the other shield thing on it? Same effect?

Any issues driving through a storm with no silencer? I have a 2010 2.3 and I have driven through windy rainy storms and snow storms.... I wana be ok nothing gets suked in

When I did the air box mod, every once in awhile i will get a humming from it at idle. Anyone else had this happen before? Anyway to fix it?

Did the air box mod today. Nothing too noticeable except engine may be breathing a little better. If its free I like it.
