Make your own thread man. Nobody is going to respond to it in here. You don't post in a thread asking about bolts, when the thread is dealing with the air intake. Anybody on here would tell you that. Homie.

That video where he uses a screw driver is not necessary. Just pull uo on it really hard, It will pop out of there.

I've pulled to the point where I feel like the plastic thing the air box is connected to is going to break haha I'll try again when I get off work at 4

Well I can't upload pics into this thread, but I broke the two clips haha oh well....thank god for epicly huge zip ties! I got the box secured back down with one of them. I have three options that I'm thinking about....leave it with the zip tie (how I have it now), get two of those things that are like plastic push things to replace it, or go to a salvage yard and get a whole new box

Question Re: How To: Air Silencer Removal (Cold Air Intake)

I have a 2008 ranger 2.3L xlt automatic and well maintained.

The bottom of my air box is similar but doesn't have the 2 large holes in it like yours.

Aside from gaining more power due to less air restriction, what does it do for MPG?

If MPG goes down (more O2 in the mix) then how can I do a mod to make mine a hot air intake box?

Usually cold air = more O2 and hot air = less O2

Less O2 generally = more MPG and faster warm up in the winter.
(Mine guzzles gas like a V12 in the winter - 12.5 MPG sometimes out of this 4 cylinder) - dealer says nothing is wrong. go figure?

I do not usually haul anything nor tow anything so I need best possible MPG I can get. I drive with a light foot trying not to exceed 2000 rpm at any time.

I ran a K & N air filter for 5 years. Can't see any difference between that and paper when it comes to MPG. So trying the paper one for this season.

I did notice that my scangauge II reports nearly 40MPG on the highway if I drive 48MPH with the cruise on and not too hilly terrain. No idea if it is lying to me LOL.

I just did this mod and cleaned my airbox while I was at it. There were a bunch of acorns/nuts in there lol so I guess I killed two birds with one stone. Definitely a little more of a "woosh" when the engine is given some pedal.
