Re: How To: Air Silencer Removal (Cold Air Intake)
The warm air intake / airbox mod thread remains my biggest mystery of this website... adding to the mystery it seems specific to this site only.

Re: How To: Air Silencer Removal (Cold Air Intake)
So you mean this is the only site that doesn't encourage the installation of fake performance parts that just waste your money? Ok.

Re: How To: Air Silencer Removal (Cold Air Intake)
has anyone ever tried to use the factory air box and make it fit with a better flowing intake tube like on a CAI?

I replaced my tube with aftermarket metal tubing that autozone sells for building intakes but used the stock box. That what you mean?

Re: How To: Air Silencer Removal (Cold Air Intake)
I just did this. It has a nice drone in cabin, but I cant tell if you can hear it outside, and my trucks power steering pump is so loud it doesn't matter. I have to say I was nervous after popping the box opening and seeing a couple bugs and what not. This truck has been sitting for 2years, maybe drove once every other week. The bugs might have been there, but for my ocd mind I bought wire mesh, not small enough to take away the intakes breath, but also not big enough for much else to get in. I just cut it big enough and epoxied it to the inside of the box... Better safe than sorry right?

Re: How To: Air Silencer Removal (Cold Air Intake)
Never got around to this. Will do this in the summer..and will install a K&N filter as well to make the mod worth it..by that, I mean opening my air box!

I've never noticed any loss of MPG and I mud and trail frequently and seems to me your just as likely to suck water with or without it. It just sounds more BA at high RPM without it.

Re: How To: Air Silencer Removal (Cold Air Intake)
Just did this and added my new k&n drop in air filter. Huge difference in sound once you hit 3000 rpm's but I didn't feel more power. I'll probly end up losing mpg's just because I want to mash the pedal and hear it more often.

yes exactly this, seems to be the best thing you could do logically. the stock tube on mine atleast looks pretty restrictive. do you like it?

Re: How To: Air Silencer Removal (Cold Air Intake)
Just did this mod and honestly can hear a tiny difference. Don't know about whether or not the mpg will be better.
