Caution: Please note that by performing this fix, FRF and I will not be responsible for it, This is a mod that if done wrong may cause your throttle cable to get stuck, SO AGAIN I CAUTION YOU TO DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK. (of course this is a easy and straight forward fix, any mishap should be limited) Good Luck
1- Time: 10 minutes
2- Flathead screw drivers
3- Throttle cable replacement
Hey folks just finished this fix tonight. Recently I installed a oem cruise control. It was pretty straight forward, However what has since transpired is a broken cable end.
Let me explain. since the parts were from the junkyard, My plastic piece that hooks onto the throttle mount broke off. Over time they get brittle and this is the end result. Of course mine I guess was on it's last leg since being exposed to the elements and heat out in the yard, so it was doomed to fail soon.
P.s Why did Ford not make the plastic end piece metal
So lets get on to the writeup
First here is the unit before any change
As you can see the plastic end piece has chipped, resulting in it not being able to keep it's hold onto the throttle housing.
First take a look at the new cable and see how it is put together, of course there is nothing to it, but this is a precaution everyone should take. "Better Safe than Sorry"
Next take a clip panel remover or small flathead screwdriver and push this tab in, it will release the black cupeling.
Than look very closely as their is a holding pin keep the cable locked into the cupeling housing.
Now remove entire cupeling from servo unit
Take new unit out of pack.
Now replace cable in the same position as when you took it out.
Once inserted, you than turn the cupeling to the left and it snaps into place.
Now pat yourself on the back and you are all done
